A single surface sculpture of a length of board with two pairs of mating moths integrated into its surface. A piece of three-dimensional marquetry, the work is a shell the thickness of the veneer. Where the moths are placed, a moth-shaped hole is cut in the board. Inspired by the traditional “butterfly cut”, wherein veneer is positioned so to create mirrored patterns with the grain, the camouflaged moths are figures of mimicry.
